Great Dane Puppies

Puppies are cute, cuddly, playful and so nice to have around. Great Dane puppies are no exception. These adorable little ones are hard to resist when you see them. However, once you’ve taken them home, the challenge starts. Listed below are some guidelines to help you deal with you Great Dane puppy and make his or her stay with you a pleasant and easy one for both of you.

.Enthusiasm. A dog’s goal in life is to bring happiness to his or her human companion. To train your Great Dane puppy easily, show that you are excited and eager to be with him in the entire task that you want him to accomplish. Let him feel that you are having a great adventure and you are pleased to do these tasks with him. If he sensed that you are upset or sad, he’d naturally think he’s done something to trouble you and will be puzzled in figuring out what it is and thus will send him the wrong message. Motivate yourself before you do activities with your Great Dane puppy and do it with passion.

.Patience. Like kids, puppies commit mistakes and sometimes will disappoint you in your expectations. However, think about the happiness that this dog will bring you. In the course of training your Great Dane puppy, give him time to learn new behaviors and be patient with him. Let him know when he’s done something wrong but never be impatient in teaching him until he gets it. When you become impatient and displeased, your puppy will get confused once again. So calm yourself, smile and teach him the activity over again. He’s sure to do better next time around.

.Scheduling. Potty training schedule should be set. Smaller dog has smaller bladder and that has to be taken into consideration. You can set the schedule this way: first thing in the morning, take him out for his potty schedule; after feeding him, schedule him for another potty time; always schedule a potty time before bedtime. When you’re home during the day, it is good to take him out on an hourly basis while he’s little. Adjustments can be done as he grows.

.Consistency. This is an important factor in training a puppy. Different methods are available for potty training puppies like using papers or little box. The important thing is the consistency of the location. You have to set and confine him in the same area. To train him to use that area, you have to use the same words and action time and again. Do not change your words or action as this can confuse him and cause him to be alarmed which might result to accidents in the house. Crate training is one of the good methods to use and can also provide a safe area for your puppy.

.Reward. Dogs learn better if he received praises and prizes for behavior that he has done. A puppy loves the attention and affection as well as the treats he gets and will associate an action after a reward as something good. For each good behavior that he has done, like going potty outside, reward him and in your most delighted voice, praise his behavior.

.Punishing is Old School. The reward and punish theory in training dogs is now being replaced by a kinder more positive approach. Punishment does not do your puppy any good. It will only get him scared and confused. Remember, his goal is to please you, so if he finds you displeased when you walk away after he has done something bad, it’s clear to him that he has done something wrong. Leave him to understand that he has made you unhappy by his action and then approach him after a few minutes. And when he get the behavior right, reward him with praise and show him how he had pleased you with it.

.Be the Alpha. Dogs, like their relative the wolves, live in packs and in each pack there is only 1 alpha dog. You have to make it clear to your puppy that you are the alpha dog, that you are the leader of the pack. With him understanding your status and his, training him becomes much easier as he knows that you call the shots and he has to follow.

.Command Simply. Make your command word simple. Example of command words most frequently used are “sit”, “stay” or “out”. To train him for potty, you can use the simple command of “potty” or “outside” and remember to stick with the same one always for a certain command.

.Do Not Complicate. Training your puppy is already a difficult task by itself. So keep it easy and simple for both of you. Be firm when you finds him doing it wrong and reward him when he got it right. Do not try having conversation with him, nagging him, or taking him somewhere else if you want to point out to him where he should pee. Chances are he would take it lightly or be confused. When he commits a potty mistake, firmly pick him, take the route he has to take going out and set him down where he should pee.

.Shower Him with Love. Love your dog as you would of a kid or a member of your family. Your dog or puppy needs all the love that you can give it. And you will never be disappointed when he showers you back with love and faithfulness.
